Of course, there were the errant 2 nd lieutenants who were so obnoxious that it was amusing to tell them of a problem and let them figure out how to fix it. We were always a crew of 4, and I was always blessed to have good crew-mates who understood their desk and mine, and together we rarely failed. In fact, I was expected to not only identify the problem, but take what action I felt appropriate before telling the supervisors what happened and how I fixed it. When I was promoted to one of the few in the USA certified to run the power grid, it was even more so. As I transitioned into the civilian electronics realm, I discovered the say was also appreciated. As a soldier for 20+ years, I learned early on that bringing a problem to your superiors was necessary, but offering possible solutions was appreciated. I don’t enjoy being the second-string Beta-Tester, even if they offered pay. ![]() And I -NEVER- buy the first run of any new radio. It is certainly worth every penny I paid for the program. Personally, I am incapable of writing any meaningful software, and I’m grateful for what I have. In that case, donating a K4 to the developers would speed the delivery of the stuff you seek. I understand that some folks are incapable of inputting the ones and zeroes that becomes the magic inside the box. but I know for a fact ICOM makes the data available for every radio capable of control. Well, I assume they published it in the manual. Still thinking out loud, but likely the K3 info might be a good starting place, modifying the address and command structure to fit the commands that Elecraft published in the K4 manual. I mean, since you own a K4, you have the best opportunity for writing and testing the data ensure proper operation. There might be some timing issues (Poll time to short, timeout too long) depending on hardware & load, and one should tweak a bit, but that’s basically the way to integrate all.Just thinking out loud David – but how long has the K4 been out there? Isn’t it always like this for the early adopter and second level of unpaid beta-testers on any new piece of gear? You could always write the needed information for the K4 on your own.
